In a recent interview with the Indian Express, actress Janhvi Kapoor addressed the trend of high entourage costs among Bollywood actors, defending it just days after filmmaker Farah Khan criticised it as a ‘wastage of resources’. Kapoor, who has gained popularity for her performances in several acclaimed projects, discussed the issue of rising overhead costs, noting her unique perspective as the daughter of producer Boney Kapoor.

Kapoor acknowledged the significant expenses but emphasised the importance of protecting her team’s rights. She advocated for an open dialogue with producers to balance costs and the welfare of the crew. “Everyone on a film set is an artist. I know I’m very protective of my team, and I’d like to protect their rights. Being a producer’s daughter, however, I also know the kind of burden and pressure all these monetary things can put on a producer. It’s important to have an open dialogue with your makers,” she stated.

Kapoor also highlighted that not all team members are driven solely by financial motives. “If this is not the film where you can have all of this, then you can make that adjustment, and if this is the film where your team can get what you want, then you give them that. I’m sure if you are working with people who care about the craft as much as you do… Not everyone here is working for money, some work for the purpose of getting work,” she added, stressing the need for mutual understanding.

Earlier this month, during an episode of Twin Encounter, Farah Khan discussed the changes she observed in Bollywood. While she acknowledged positive developments like better organisation and punctuality, she also highlighted the rise in entourage costs as an area needing change. Khan pointed out that the increased presence of 8-9 team members with actors adds financial strain on producers without contributing to the on-screen outcome, labelling it as resource wastage.

Kapoor’s defence and Khan’s critique reflect the ongoing debate in Bollywood regarding the balance between maintaining high production standards and managing costs effectively, illustrating the diverse perspectives within the industry.
