Janhvi Kapoor is preparing for the release of her upcoming film Ulajh, actively promoting it both online and offline. In a recent interview with India Today, Janhvi reflected on her career choices, expressing uncertainty about her acceptance in the industry as an actor. She mentioned, “I do not know whether the industry has actually opened up to the actor in me yet.” Janhvi emphasised that acting has always been her passion, saying, “It’s something that I am probably not specifically thinking about as such because acting is what I wanted to do all my life.”
Janhvi Kapoor tags Ulajh to be a high-risk film
Reflecting on her career evolution, Janhvi acknowledged her growth from her first film to now but remained unsure of how the industry perceives her. She noted that opting for commercial films with guaranteed success and wider reach could have been a predictable and easier path. These films, featuring songs, dance, and glamour, would have likely brought her more popularity. However, she chose a different route, saying, “I made a conscious decision a couple of years ago to challenge myself and surprise myself and try something different even though the risks and stakes are much higher.”
Janhvi discussed her preference for smaller, riskier films, describing “Ulajh” as one of those high-risk projects. She humorously contrasted her online persona with her acting career, saying, “Sometimes I make jokes about Insta Janhvi vs actor Janhvi.” Despite being uncertain about the industry’s perception of her, she is confident in her abilities, stating, “With every film, I get more confident on another set because I feel that I can deliver what my director wants out of me.”
She concluded by warning against being swayed by external perceptions, saying, “Outside narrative or perception kills an artist because it will start making her calculate things that she is not meant to calculate in any case.”
Ulajh, directed by Sudhanshu Saria, features an ensemble cast including Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Adil Hussain, Rajendra Gupta, Rajesh Tailang, Meiyang Chang, and Jitendra Joshi. The film is set to release in theaters on August 2.
