Jay Blades, the UK television star best known for his work fronting hit BBC series The Repair Shop, has been charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behavior.
Blades appeared in Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Friday and has been bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on October 11.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “54-year-old Jason Blades of Claverley in Wolverhampton has been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour … The charges follow the launch of an investigation after we were called to an address on 3 May.”
In the same month, Blades separated from his wife, Lisa Zbozen, after 18 months of marriage.
Blades has established himself as a household name after first appearing in The Repair Shop in 2017. Produced by Warner Bros. Discovery-owned Ricochet, the show follows a group of experts who lovingly restore peoples’ treasured possessions.
King Charles III (then the Prince of Wales) appeared on The Repair Shop in 2021, while the show has also hosted Dame Judi Dench. Blades and Dench struck up a rapport and went on to make Channel 4 show Dame Judi and Jay: The Odd Couple.
The BBC said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on ongoing legal proceedings.”
