Corey Graves didn’t hold back when he vented his frustrations on social media earlier this month, expressing his disappointment over WWE’s decision to move him to NXT commentary. Now, WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield has weighed in on the situation, offering support for Graves while acknowledging the reality of WWE’s limited spots at the commentary table.

On Something to Wrestle, JBL addressed Graves’ post, in which he reflected on dedicating himself to commentary after being forced to retire from in-ring action, only to feel like his efforts weren’t fully appreciated.

“I can understand. There’s only three commentary spots unless you have two color commentators on a certain show like you’ve had before, with a three-man booth, there’s only three color commentator spots. So you’ve got to move guys around, and that happens,” JBL explained.

Despite the tough situation, JBL made it clear that he’s a big fan of Graves’ work behind the desk. “I think Corey has done an incredible job. I think Corey is an incredible commentator. I think Pat McAfee is, too… To me, I think there’s room for both, and I certainly hope they find room for both.”

With Michael Cole and Pat McAfee now calling Monday Night Raw on Netflix and Joe Tessitore joining Wade Barrett on SmackDown, Graves’ next move remains uncertain. While his NXT commentary role was never confirmed as permanent, he was expected to appear on the January 14 episode—only to be left off the show entirely.
