The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is heading to Destination X.
The actor, who also stars in The Boys, is to host NBC’s upcoming adventure reality competition series. He will also exec produce.
It marks his first major unscripted project on a broadcast network; he did previously star in and exec produce AMC’s Friday Night in with the Morgans during the pandemic.
The series, which is currently in production, was officially picked up earlier this year. Based on a Belgian format, the series is produced by British production company Twofour, which is also making a separate version for the BBC.
Destination X sees a group of contestants go on the road trip of a lifetime but they have no idea of their location. In order to win, they must figure out their mystery locations. Once they’re on the blacked-out Destination X bus, the journey turns into a real-life game board, with challenges designed to offer clues as to their location, along with a few misdirects to keep them guessing.
At the end of each episode, the contestant who places an X on a map furthest from the actual location packs their bags. The first participant to reach Destination X will be crowned the winner.
Twofour will co-produce the NBC version with Universal Television Alternative Studio. Caroline Davies, Andy Cadman, Dan Adamson and David Clews will exec produce the NBC version.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan said, “Destination X captivated me with its blend of travel, mystery, and gaming. I can’t wait to embark on this wild guessing game across the globe as Master of Ceremony, navigating players through challenges that test their mental and physical abilities.”
“Jeffrey Dean Morgan embodies the mischievous international man of mystery, making him the perfect host and puppet master for this new travel adventure series,” said Corie Henson, EVP, Unscripted Content, Competition and Game Shows, NBCUniversal Entertainment. “He’s dashing, charming, playful and the ultimate travel companion.”
“When thinking about who we’d want to travel around the world with, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was the first person to come to mind,” added Toby Gorman, President, Universal Television Alternative Studio. “Destination X is filled with adventure, excitement and intrigue, all the characteristics that Jeffrey exemplifies.”
