FX‘s The Bear cleaned up at the Screen Actors Guild Awards winning all three top comedy series awards including Best Ensemble, Best Actor for Jeremy Allen White and Best Actress for Ayo Edebiri.
Backstage, White opened up about what his hopes are for his character Carmy as the show is currently in production on Season 3.
“I was flying to Chicago and I got dropped a little note on a napkin while I was on the plane. All it said on it was, ‘I hope Carmy gets a happy ending.’ I think that’s all I really hoped for. That he learns how to understand himself a little bit better and appreciates what he has and then finds some peace.”
He later added, “What I want people to take away or understand, to me, the show is so much about loneliness and how to combat that. How to find belonging, how to communicate and how to connect. I hope those who watch it and enjoy it feel less alone. I think a lot of the show is about found family and the connection we all are always searching for.”
The Bear follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a young chef from the fine dining world, who comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop – The Original Beef of Chicagoland – after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he’s used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff, and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother’s suicide.
Both seasons are currently available to stream via Hulu.
Additionally, White’s co-star Matty Matheson also revealed production “is going really well; better than usual” and that the cast is keeping their “heads down and hearts full.”
He added, “We’re back in Chicago. The weather is kind of nice and [we have] big scripts and big scenes. Cameras are on and we’re ready.”
The Bear is coming off a very eventful award season earning many accolades including 10 Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Series, Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy for White and Edebiri, respectively, among others.
