Jerry Lawler doesn’t miss his role on commentary anymore.

“The King” last worked as a full-time commentator for the WWE back in 2020. He was replaced by Samoa Joe in April that year, although his career seemed to be over after suffering a stroke in early 2023.

Jerry Lawler recently spoke with Bill Apter on Sportskeeda Wrestlebinge. He revealed that his health has been a big problem, although he is still signed to the WWE under a Legends contract.

The WWE Hall of Famer then added that he doesn’t miss doing commentary. Jerry Lawler noted how last time he was out there, he was just waiting for the event to be over.

“Well, my health has been a big problem for me lately. First of all, I had a couple of strokes, and that’s what cost me my deal with WWE with my commentating because my voice… it’s not perfect, but it’s not good enough to do commentating. I’m still with them on a Legends contract. The best part of that is, I think, four times a year, I get a nice big check.”

“Do I miss it? No. I just went out there, sat down, and was myself. I don’t know, it was just like another chapter of my life. I got to lay it all out there, and I didn’t think much of it. As a matter of fact, about 10 or 15 minutes before it was over, I was thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, how much longer is this going to last?’ And as soon as it was over, I just got up, went about my business, and left the studio. I just went back to being Jerry Lawler.”

On May 6, PWInsider reported that WWE elected not to renew Lawler’s broadcasting contract, but he would still have a Legends deal. Lawler also told PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson that his career with WWE has “probably ended”, noting that he was getting over the effects of his stroke.

“One other thing that a lot of people wonder about, my career has probably ended with the WWE,” Lawler said. “it’s just one of those things that goes with my getting over with all the stuff that happened with the stroke and it was — my just sitting behind a desk and doing it, commentating on a match again was extremely difficult.”
