Jesse Ventura revealed why he came back to WWE on Raw last night.

The former Governor of Minnesota made his first WWE appearance since 2009 on last night’s show. He emerged from a car backstage, and was greeted by Triple H on camera. Michael Cole also named him as one of the best color commentators in WWE history.

His relationship with the company had been strained for many years. “The Body” was infamously stopped in an attempt to form a union by then-WWE Champion Hulk Hogan. He also sued the WWE – and won – over media rights in 1991.

He made occasional appearances over the years, including as the special guest host of Raw in 2009. Jesse Ventura forced Vince McMahon to join him on commentary for a throwback Battle Royal, in a classic moment from their era.

Jesse Ventura’s return was a huge shock, but a long time coming.

The WWE Hall of Famer took to Twitter after the show to reveal why he came back after all those years. Jesse Ventura Tweeted out that he came back “for moments like these”, before posting a photo of him meeting CM Punk at ringside.

“Why did I come back? For moments like these… @WWE @CMPunk

Jesse Ventura posted another Tweet, replying to the footage of his return. He declared, “The Body is back home”, before tagging CM Punk, saying, “looks like hell froze over…again”. This was a play on what Punk said after his return to the company at Survivor Series last year.

“Yes, it’s true. The Body is back home. Thank you @TripleH and the whole @WWE family. @CMPunk looks like hell froze over… again.”
