Since splitting up from the Bloodline last year, Jey Uso has quickly become one of the most popular singles wrestlers in WWE. The former tag team champion wrestled Roman Reigns in a singles match in the main event of Summerslam, something unheard of just aa few years ago.
Splitting off from his family seemed like a “sink or swim” moment for one half of “The Usos”, but Jey has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He has succeeded as a singles star for the first time, impressing much more than his brother Jimmy so far.
The pair entered number one and number two in the Royal Rumble match, leading to rumours that we could see Jimmy vs Jey at WrestleMania 40 this year. This would be the first singles match between the pair, and shows just how far Jey Uso has come as a solo wrestler.
Jey spoke with TNT Sports about his journey as a singles star, following the split from his brother last year. He revealed that the biggest difference between being in a tag team and being on your own is the travelling, where he now rides solo rather than with his family.
“[It’s been] pretty scary, cool, fun — all of the above. I [didn’t] know how the people would embrace me. … Are they gonna like me, uce? Man, they might not like me. But lately, uce, I feel like they finally got behind your boy, and I can feel that energy every single Monday.”
“The biggest difference, for me, is the travelling part of my job. I travel alone now, when I’m usually when my twin brother all these years, [or] even with Solo for the last year and a half. … Now it’s just me, navigating through the world alone.”
The Usos could collide later this year at WrestleMania 40, although it is likely we will also see them during Roman Reigns’ expected title defence against Cody Rhodes.
