Jey Uso says he’s still trying to prove himself, and he’s going to keep showing up every week.

Uso’s breakout singles run has rocketed to new highs recently, as he won the Men’s Royal Rumble to earn a world title shot at WWE WrestleMania 41. He is set to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at the show.

Speaking with Shak Mahjouri for CBS Sports (via SHAK Wrestling), Jey Uso noted that he didn’t think he had a standout singles performance yet. He was asked to explain why. Uso stated that he was still trying to prove himself.

“I think…I don’t know. I just think, no matter what I’m doing right now, I’m still try to prove myself as as a singles star, as a singles competitor, even though I’ve been by myself for about a year and a half now,” Uso said. “Just still trying to prove myself, and it’s okay. It’s okay, this is my story. I think a lot of people rock with me because they watched me grow in front of them, they know where I came from, they raised me up. So that’s all I’m gonna do, Uce.

“Every Monday, I show up to work, Uce. I make sure I leave it all out there because I’m trying to enjoy this ride. My father says it all the time, it don’t matter how high you get, you’ll always meet the same people on your way down. I’m gonna show up every Monday and do whatever I gotta do, and hopefully the people still ride with me.”

WrestleZone will have coverage of WWE RAW as it airs on March 3rd.
