The Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission has sworn in 19 newly appointed Sharia Court Judges (Alkalis), reinforcing the state’s commitment to strengthening the Sharia court system.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Judicial Complex in Dutse, was attended by top judicial officials, including High Court judges, Kadis, magistrates, and Sharia Court judges.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Judge and Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission, Justice Umar Sadiq, urged the new judges to uphold justice and shun corruption.
“As part of your new roles, you will preside over Sharia court cases, interpret Islamic law, and provide guidance to the communities you serve,” he said.
Justice Sadiq described the appointments as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to uphold justice, integrity, and the rule of law.
He commended the newly appointed judges for their dedication and commitment to the judiciary.
Also speaking, the Grand Kadi of the Jigawa State Sharia Court of Appeal, Kadi Sani Salihu, reminded the appointees to remain law-abiding and uphold the principles of Islamic Sharia.
“All eyes are on you. We expect you to discharge your duties with fairness and integrity,” he emphasized.
Providing further insights into the appointments, the Director of Publicity and Protocol, Abbas Rufa’i Wangara, stated that the newly appointed Alkalis underwent rigorous training and selection processes to ensure their deep understanding of Islamic law and commitment to justice.
“These judges will play a vital role in upholding the principles of Sharia and serving communities at the grassroots level with fairness and integrity,” he noted.
The newly appointed Sharia Court Judges/Alkalis are: Mohd Abubakar, Ibrahim Adamu Ibrahim, Suleiman Abubakar Suleiman, Lawan Salisu, Shu’aibu Hussain, Rabi’u Jafar Adamu, Muhsin Haruna Hashim, Abdullahi Sabo, Jafar Hassan Adam, Abdulkadir Umar Maigari, Umar Abubakar Yahaya, Umar Muktar Shu’aibu, Rufa’i Sabo, Najib Garba, Shu’aibu Nasiru, Nura Mohd Imam, Abubakar Dalhatu, Muddassir Usman Adam, and Abdullahi Idris.
The newly sworn-in judges are expected to begin their judicial duties immediately, ensuring the fair dispensation of justice in accordance with Islamic principles.
