Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi
Amid recurring clashes between farmers and herders in Jigawa State, the Herdsmen-Farmers Dispute Resolution Committee in Gagarawa Local Government Area has intensified efforts to restore peace between the warring groups.
The committee, led by the District Head of Gagarawa and Dokajin Gumel, Kabir Usman on Thursday held a peace mediation meeting in Zingaran and Jaftar towns, engaging both Hausa farmers and Fulani herders to resolve long-standing disputes.
Jigawa State has been grappling with periodic conflicts between the two groups, particularly in Gagarawa, Guri, Hadejia, and other areas, often resulting in loss of lives, destruction of farmlands, and displacement of residents—especially during harvesting seasons.
Speaking at the event, the Emir of Gumel, Ahmad Sani, represented by Bala Muhd, underscored the need for peaceful coexistence, stressing that lasting harmony could only be achieved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
“The success of this reconciliation effort depends on the continued support and cooperation of both parties,” he said.
Echoing similar sentiments, Kabir Usman urged the feuding groups to embrace peace, noting that development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of conflict.
“There will be no progress as long as there is no peace,” he stated.
Also speaking, the District Head of Yalawa, represented by Malam Gambo Bulama, described the committee’s initiative as a step in the right direction and encouraged all parties to set aside their differences in pursuit of long-term stability.

The involvement of these key figures, along with community and religious leaders, signalled a strong commitment to resolving the conflict through dialogue rather than violence.
At the end of the meeting, both farmers and herders commended the reconciliation process, expressing optimism that the renewed peace efforts would foster understanding and cooperation in the region.
