Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume
The Federal Government has pledged to assist Jigawa state in rebuilding Majia town, the location of the recent fuel tanker explosion, where 153 lives were lost.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, gave the assurance on Thursday in Majia town, when he led the FG delegation on a condolence visit.
He said that President Bola Tinubu was devastated by the news of the incident because of his passion for the citizens.
Akume, expressed dismay over the incident, saying that it was amongst the worst explosions witnessed in the country.
“The President has ordered an in-depth investigation into the case and the necessary measures will be taken because the President has a passion for Jigawa and has made a lot of interventions in the state.
“We have visited some of the affected persons in Rashid Shekoni Hospital in Dutse and we are here at Majia Community to extend the Presidential condolences.
“The President has also ordered many agencies to come down to Jigawa and aid the victims in rebuilding the community and assisting the affected families,” Akume said.
Also speaking, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who was amongst the FG’s delegation, expressed concern over the incident and condoled the families of those who lost their lives.
Abdulrazaq however, cautioned Nigerian citizens against scooping fuel whenever such accidents occur and calling on relevant agencies to embark on massive awareness campaigns to prevent future occurrences.
Corp Marshal, Shehu Muhammed of the Federal Road Safety Commission, said an investigation has been launched by the commission.
He said that based on the Presidential order, the commission will get more incentives to reduce road accidents in the country.
Muhammed expressed dismay over the unfortunate tanker explosion and cautioned road users violating road regulations.
Governor Umar Namdi of Jigawa State commended the Federal government for mourning with the state and sending a powerful delegation to the state.
He commended Tinubu for his multiple interventions and concerns for Jigawa state and its citizens.
Meanwhile, prominent personalities have continued to troop into the state to condole the government and people of the State over the unfortunate incident.
