Ahead of the October 5 Local Government election in Jigawa, the State Police Command has vowed to remove all notorious thugs “out of circulation” as part of an effort to ensure violence-free elections in the state.

The State Police Commissioner, A.T. Abdullahi, who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Dutse on Tuesday, said the measure was necessary to check the excesses of thugs during the elections.

He stated that the command would identify the black spots for political thugs before the election to take necessary measures to ensure peaceful conduct during the election.

“We have commenced moves to identify the black spots of political thugs. We shall go after them before the election. Some of the notorious ones will be arrested and held until after the election,” the commissioner said.

He mentioned that the command had already started having consultative meetings with the State Independent Electoral Commission, state government officials and other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful exercise.

According to him, the command would soon convene a meeting with all the candidates and leaders of the political parties, where they would be made to sign a peace accord.

“We shall invite all the candidates and leaders of the various political parties participating in the election to sign a peace accord,” CP Abdullahi said.

The CP asserted that the command would take all the necessary security measures to ensure that nobody disrupts the election.

He added that the command would continue to employ proactive measures to ensure the state remains peaceful, as it is one of the most peaceful states in the country.

“We are not sleeping. We’re working round the clock to ensure that the state maintains its position as one of the most peaceful states in the country,” he said.
