Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi
The Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammed Kainuwa, on Wednesday confirmed that the state government is to establish five dialysis centres in the state.
Kainuwa disclosed this in Dutse, the state capital, at the opening of bids for the award of contract for the construction of the diagnostic centre and the completion of the Hadejia and Kazaure specialist hospitals.
The commissioner said the dialysis centres will be established in the headquarters of Dutse, Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim and Gumel Emirates, adding that the state government has earmarked N500 million for the centres.
“These centres are expected to offer free services to all dialysis patients in the state”, he said.
Furthermore, the commissioner warned that the government will no longer accept delays in contract execution.
“Construction for the Hadejia specialist hospital which began six year ago and that of Kazaure which began seven years ago, are yet to completed.
“These projects, which would have cost the government N1.7 billion now costs N4 billion, due to waste of time, changes in prices and variations. We are not going to take that again.
“This is because contractors and consultants have compromised. I will assure all of you that if any consultant attempts to delay us, we will revoke the contract and prosecute them,” the commissioner warned.
Kainuwa also warned staff of the Ministry of Health, due process and monitoring bureau that the government will not accept substandard work on any contract.
“This also serves as warning to those in the department of planning and monitoring that we will not accept or compromise on the quality of job,” he said.
The commissioner tasked successful bidders to ensure that the projects are completed within the stipulated time frame.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the Jigawa State Due Process and Project Monitoring Bureau, Prof Kasim Ibrahim, urged the successful bidders to ensure timely completion and to deliver quality projects.
Ibrahim, who assured the contractors of timely payment of work done, warned that the agency will not entertain delays and poor work.
“If you do that, I assure you that there won’t be any problem. But this time round regarding completion period, it won’t be business as usual.
“This is because delays are what may lead to variations of prices and this time round we will not entertain this”, Ibrahim said
