The Rock made a memorable comeback, briefly casting a shadow over Cody Rhodes’ highly anticipated WrestleMania 40 slot. While the situation was later corrected, The Rock delivered a compelling villainous monologue on last week’s Friday Night SmackDown. In light of his promo, Jim Cornette believes that The Rock overshadowed Roman Reigns during the show.
In the decisive segment of last week’s Friday Night SmackDown, The Rock revealed his alliance with The Bloodline. He took the opportunity to criticize WWE fans for showing preference towards Cody Rhodes as the headliner for WrestleMania 40, rather than anticipating his showdown with Roman Reigns.
While speaking on a recent episode of the Jim Cornette Experience, the WWE veteran noted that, despite both being massive stars, The Rock overshadowed Roman Reigns during the segment.
“The problem I saw, and Stacy noticed this also because she was in the room for this one too, is that no matter how good Roman Reigns is, and I mean there’s Jimmy Uso and Solo [Sikoa], and they’re stooges and they know it. And Paul’s [Heyman] the manager, and he can’t make himself disappear; he’s way too large for that, but he can back up. But you had Roman Reigns standing there in the group with Paul and Solo and Jimmy watching The Rock own the building and own the ring and own the show.”
The 62-year-old added that Roman Reigns seemed to be admiring the Hollywood megastar’s work during the segment as well.
”And there’s no way he can be The Rock and not overshadow anybody. But the way the positioning was, there was Roman standing back and admiring the main event guy’s work instead of at least being somewhat close to him, facing in the same direction with the other three off in the corner. I could have bought that better.”
Ringside News also exclusively reported that multiple key figures were involved in The Rock’s promo segment. It remains to be seen how WWE will continue to book The Bloodline storyline as we slowly approach WrestleMania 40.
