Jinder Mahal found out he wasn’t wrestling anymore in a very unconventional way.

The former WWE Champion was taken off the active roster in 2023, and made the manager of Indus Sher. He didn’t wrestle a televised match between March 2023 and January 2024, where he had a surprise bout with Seth Rollins and a segment with The Rock.

The call to take him out of the ring was a surprise to Jinder Mahal, because nobody told him! He spoke with Chris Van Vliet, where Jinder revealed he found out from the roster sheet that he’d been made a manager.

“While I was managing Indus Sher, when we got drafted to Raw, I was told that I’m no longer a wrestler, just a manager. But I still stayed in shape. I was pitching all kinds of storylines. Like six-man tags or matches for myself with Indus Sher managing me, but nothing was happening. I asked the writer, ‘What’s the deal?’ I also saw the roster sheet for male heels on Raw and SmackDown. I wasn’t listed under male heels. There were male heel tag teams, and Indus Sher was listed with me in brackets as a manager. So, I wasn’t even listed as active talent.”

Jinder Mahal: A Writer Confirmed It To Him Before He Wrestled Seth Rollins

Jinder Mahal continued, revealing that he eventually confronted a WWE writer, who confirmed that he was not being considered an active wrestler anymore.

Soon after, Jinder Mahal faced off against Seth Rollins on Raw in January, his first match in months.

I asked the writer, ‘Was it discussed that I’m not wrestling anymore?’ He said, ‘Yeah, it was brought up that you’re just going to manage Indus Sher.’ But then I had the match with Seth Rollins. Luckily, I was in shape because I stayed in shape. That could have gone the opposite way, where I started eating desserts and catering every week. But no, I’m always ring-ready. Motivation comes and goes; it’s very hard to stay super dialed in year-round.”
