The actor, in a recent interview, got candid about his six-and-a-half-year-long private relationship with Swift, their breakup and whether he’s heard her latest album – The Tortured Poets Department.

During an interview with The Sunday Times Style – published on Saturday, June 15, Joe Alwyn finally opened up about his breakup with Taylor Swift. The 33-year-old actor calls his relationship with the 34-year-old pop star a ‘lon, loving and fully committed’ one. When asked if he’s heard Taylor’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department – which fans believe may be made up of material inspired by the former couple’s breakup, Alwyn said, “In thinking on what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathize.”
He continued, “This isn’t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about. I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.” The ‘Kinds of Kindness’ actor added, “That is a hard thing to navigate.”

Talking about their breakup making the headlines, Alwyn continued, “What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in. So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.” Joe added, “And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”
On keeping their relationship private
Joe said, “As everyone knows, we together — both of us, mutually — decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now… and, look, this is also a little over a year ago now and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally. I feel really good.”
After their breakup, Taylor Swift found love once again. The ‘Midnight Rain’ singer is currently dating Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. The duo have been spotted together on several occasions – including her concerts and his matches, since their romance became public in 2023.
