Joe Hendry only knew about his NXT appearance this week at the last moment.
The TNA star made a surprise appearance in the main event of NXT. He teamed with Trick Williams against NXT Champion Ethan Page and Shawn Spears, after Je’von Evans was taken out backstage.
The pair worked well together, and Joe Hendry picked up the victory for his side. He hit his “Standing Ovation” chokeslam on Shawn Spears, pinning him to pick up his first win in two WWE matches in the last few weeks.
However, he didn’t have much time to prepare for his appearance in the main event. And as it turns out, that was perfectly fine for the musical superstar.
Joe Hendry spoke with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful in a recent interview. He asked the Scotsman about how he prepared for his NXT appearance. Hendry revealed that he found out at the very last moment, not having much notice about his return to the promtoion.
He added that he prefers it that way. Joe Hendry said he would overthink it too much if he knew it in advance, and it is more organic if it happens spontaneously like it did.
“People ask me anytime something like this happens. Everybody hits me up all throughout the week, and the best part is I don’t need to lie to anybody because I genuinely don’t know until the last moment. And I love it because if I knew that I was going to be doing all these cool things a week in advance, a month in advance, I feel like there’s a danger you can overthink it, you know what I mean? So I think sometimes when everything just kind of happens, it feels really organic. And I think that people get those organic reactions.”
Joe Hendry: The Struggle Was All Worth It
Joe Hendry continued. He revealed that he was having so much fun in NXT while also getting to work TNA and the indies.
He said that all the struggle he faced in his career was worth it, while adding appearing in the ring with Jeff Hardy as one of the most shocking moments.
“It was a lot of fun. It’s just so much fun. It’s everything you’d want it to be, man. It really is. Let me put this to you: how crazy is this? Signed to TNA, getting to work NXT at the same time, still doing cool Indies and stuff like that, and you get to travel the world. You’re working with people that you like. Just the other week, when Jeff Hardy came back and I’m in the ring, and we’re all together, I’m like, ‘What is going on? What is going on?’ Sean, it was all worth it. All the struggle, everything. It was all worth it.”
