Joe Hendry shocked a lot of fans when he appeared during the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble match. He then proceeded to call out John Cena for a match. This is something that he really wants, and Cena doesn’t seem opposed to the idea.
While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Joe Hendry mentioned John Cena. He wants a match against the 16x World Champion, and he made that very clear. He also had a chance to speak with Cena directly about it, and the two had a great conversation during the Royal Rumble.
John Cena had some treasured advice for Joe Hendry as well. While Cena couldn’t promise a match with him during his retirement tour, he did let him know what he had to do to make it become a reality.
“I said in an interview after I won the championship that I called out John Cena. Just like I believed I would be in the Rumble, I hand on my heart believe I will wrestle John Cena this year. 100%. There’s not any doubt. I had an opportunity to tell John Cena that as well, we had a long conversation. It was awesome. He’s the greatest.”
“I’ll share some of that, but I won’t share all. Basically, he said that fortune favors the bold. He said that if I want that match, then it’s on my shoulders. With the chaos of the rumble going on, John Cena and I sat down to have a conversation. I think he sees something in me, but I have to put myself in a position where me against John Cena is one of the most interesting in pro wrestling.”
This was not the first time that John Cena and Joe Hendry shared space with each other. Hendry was around Cena years ago when he was an extra in WWE, but the two also had a conversation on the phone a long time ago when one of Hendry’s friends called him while he was at a Cena autograph signing.
John Cena only has so many dates in his retirement tour. He will make under 40 appearances, and he has a lot on his plate outside the ring. Only time will tell if he ends up squaring off against Joe Hendry.
We will have to see if John Cena versus Joe Hendry happens in 2025. It would certainly be a big match for the TNA World Champion, but Hendry is always one to believe in himself.
