Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes are set to be two key players for Newcastle United this coming season.
Four weeks on Saturday the Premier League kicks off for NUFC with a home match against Southampton.
Bruno Guimaraes was best man at Joelinton’s wedding after the 2023/24 Premier League season ended, after which Bruno went off with Brazil to prepare for the Copa America, whilst Joelinton had a more relaxed football-free summer with his new wife.
Joelinton has been speaking from the first-team training camp at the Adidas headquarters in Germany.
He has revealed that Bruno Guimaraes will be returning in time to travel to Japan with the rest of the first-team squad. That trip to Japan following the friendly at Hull in 10 days time on Saturday 27 July.
So basically Bruno Guimaraes is set to rejoin the squad at least three weeks before the season starts, with presumably the other international players also set to be on that plane to Japan, the likes of Schar, Almiron, Dubravka, Trippier, and Gordon.
In the meantime, Joelinton relishes being back with the rest of the first-team squad and putting the hard work in ahead of the new season.
Joelinton talking to NUFC TV – 17 July 2024:
“Very happy to be back.
“Very excited for the new season.
“We have been working very hard, great to be back with the guys.
“I can’t wait for the season to start.
“We have a great group here [at Newcastle United], great guys, great characters.
“It has been a long summer and I have enjoyed it with family and friends but from day one [of pre-season] great to be back.”
Interviewer:
‘We are here at the Adidas headquarters how have you found it?’
Joelinton:
“Amazing to be here, it is a great facility.
“We have everything we need. The training pitches, the gym, the rooms.
“Everyone together, good for the new players as well, some academy players.
“Great to reconnect again and work hard.
“I enjoyed my summer.
“Recharge, recovery, enjoy, and now I’m fresh and focused on the season.”
Interviewer:
‘Have you spoken to Bruno much over the summer?’
Joelinton:
“Yes, he was the best man at my wedding, we had a great time.
“We talk a lot, he and Brazil were unlucky (losing on penalties to Uruguay in the Copa America quarter-finals). I am sad for the fans and for him (Bruno Guimaraes) and the other players.
“But he is good now, his recovery.
“He had a long season but he can’t wait to come back.
“I talk with him and he will be back to come to Japan with us.
“It is going to be great to have him back and the other players, the international players who are not back yet.
“When I got the injury I knew it would be very difficult for me to go to the Copa America and my thoughts at the time were just to do a good recovery, to come back to the team and help Newcastle, now I am just focused on the new season.
“Train hard every day to be the best I can be and get ready for the new season, because it is going to be a good one.
“We have our goals, we want to play Champions League football again, give our best, try to get to the finals of the cups.
“Every game counts and every game we are going to give our best, try to win every game.
“The way we play, we have to work hard in training, to make it difficult to play against us.”
