Newcastle’s Joelinton was able to thwart a burglary at his home thanks to a security alert on his phone while at St James' Park.

Northumbria Police were called to a property around 19:30pm on Saturday.

The BBC report that the home in Darras Hall belongs to Joelinton, although the force have not named the Brazilian star as the homeowner.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Thankfully the homeowner was not home but had received a security alert on their phone and immediately reported concerns to police."

Newcastle were playing Manchester City in the Premier League when the incident took place, and Joelinton was present, but on the sidelines due to injury.

Officers reportedly arrived at the house but the burglars had already left.

Northumbria Police are asking for anyone with information to contact the force.

The attempted burglary comes weeks after fellow Premier League star Jack Grealish’s house was robbed while he was also in action.

Sadly for Grealish, he wasn’t as lucky as Joelinton with his family present while £1million worth of jewellery was stolen on December 27.

The England winger was playing against Everton at the time, and later posted on social media.

“I can’t begin to explain how devastated I am over the burglary that took place at my home a few days ago,” he wrote.

“My family mean the world to me and nothing is more important than ensuring their safety. This has been a traumatic experience for all of us, I am just so grateful that nobody was hurt.

“I have had so many amazing experiences and achievements over the last 12 months, but to be honest the best year of my life in football now doesn’t feel like something I can celebrate.

“The people that commit these terrible crimes have no idea of the damage they cause to peoples lives. I hope they are found and brought to justice so no other family has to go through what we have.

“I appreciate the messages from everyone and the support from my friends, teammates and the club. On a more positive note, I’d like to thank everyone for their support throughout this past year, I wish you and your family a happy 2024.”
