During an interview on the Howard Stern Show, Cena reflected on his evolution and the constraints he faced in WWE. He discussed the limitations imposed on his character, acknowledging his inability to explore darker, more complex roles within the wrestling world.
“I realized it’s something that I can’t do forever, combined with the fact that I didn’t have a lot of wild creative freedom in WWE. I had complete creative freedom over how I could curate my character, but I couldn’t turn bad. That limits what you’re capable of,” Cena explained.
While Cena briefly embraced a darker persona in the Firefly Fun House match against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36, his Hollywood ventures have allowed him to further expand his repertoire.
In addition to his thriving acting career, Cena continues to make annual appearances in WWE, maintaining his connection to the wrestling world while carving out a prominent presence in Hollywood.
Elsewhere in the interview, Cena addressed allegations against Vince McMahon, shedding light on his experiences within the wrestling industry.
