John Cena will appear as a guest star on The Simpsons.

Michael Schneider of Variety reported the news. Cena’s appearance was first announced during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. There, guest moderator Kevin Smith spoke with Matt Groening, showrunner Matt Selman, and producers Rob LaZebnik, Jessica Conrad, and Tim Bailey to discuss the upcoming thirty-sixth season.

“Bart’s Birthday” will open the season, and the star-studded episode will feature appearances by Conan O’Brien, Cena, Danny DeVito, and Tom Hanks.

Cena will not be the first WWE star to appear on The Simpsons. Bret “The Hitman” Hart made a guest appearance in the 1997 episode The Old Man and The Lisa.

Mark Henry On John Cena

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently discussed John Cena’s upcoming retirement. Speaking with TV Insider, Henry said that Cena should be revered.

“I think it’s awesome. I’m so happy for [him],” Henry said. “I think that now he’ll be able to be appreciated the way that he should be appreciated. People wanted [him] to turn heel. John Cena and Ricky Steamboat, lifetime babyfaces. That’s who they are. That is what they were designed to be. They stuck to their guns. The New Day, too.”

“Embrace it, love it, don’t call it goody two shoes. The people that boo John Cena and wished violence upon him back then, you all need a whooping. He should be revered,” Henry added.
