Lionsgate has finally released the first official trailer for the aptly titled John Wick spin-off film, John Wick: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas.

Unlike the other John Wick films, Ballerina isn’t directed by Chad Stahelski. Instead, it is being directed by Len Wiseman, aka the dude behind the Underworld films. Regarding story and continuity, Ballerina is set smack dab between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.  It follows Rooney (de Armas) as she sets out on a quest for vengeance against those who killed her father. The only way for the hard-boiled plié-ing ballerina to identify her father’s killer is to identify them by their tattoo. Somewhere down the line, she waltzes into the Continental, wields a flame thrower, runs into Mr. Wick, and asks him how she can become more like him. To which he dryly replies that it already looks like she has.

Aside from de Armas, the film also stars a returning Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick, as well as Gabriel Bryne (Hereditary) as the primary antagonist. Other co-stars include Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune), Catalina Sandino Moreno (From), David Castañeda (Umbrella Academy), and The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus.

Ballerina was initially slated to release this June 7, but Lionsgate delayed the film to tease fan anticipation until it reached max capacity. In the lag time, the studio reportedly added more set pieces to the action flick’s thrill ride. This is saying something, considering those in attendance at CinemaCon 2024, like our own Germain Lussier, already felt like the new footage presented for the film was already “worth the wait.”

Ballerina will release in theaters on June 6, 2025.
