Jon Stewart gets ‘multiple standing ovations’ in the studio as he returns to ‘The Daily Show’

He’s still got it.

Jon Stewart returned to Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” on Monday night to a standing ovation from fans in the studio.

A source at Stewart’s first taping since resigning in 2015 tells us there was “incredible energy in the room,” and that he was given “multiple standing ovations.”

“The audience went nuts,” they tell Page Six.

We hear Stewart, who hosted the show for 16 years, came out before the taping to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” a tradition we’re told was from his previous tenure on the show.

“They had a playlist of music, songs and artists that Jon loves,” says the source.

Stewart is serving as an executive producer of the show, and takes the anchor’s seat on Monday nights up until the 2024 presidential election in November.

A rotating news team of Jordan Klepper, Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta and Dulce Sloan will take the lead the rest of the week.

“Why am I back?” Stewart said during the show, adding, “I have committed a lot of crimes. From what I understand, talk show hosts are granted immunity — it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but take it up with the founders.”

The episode, in which he discussed the potential rematch between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump, was watched by two million viewers according to Nielsen. (The numbers marked a ratings win for Paramount, which also had the Golden Globes, Grammys and Super Bowl.)

A number of guest hosts have anchored the show since Trevor Noah left in 2022 including Hasan Minhaj, Kal Penn, Sarah Silverman, Leslie Jones and Chelsea Handler.

“What the f—k are we doing here, people?” Stewart fumed about the current state of the 2024 presidential election that’s poised to be a rematch between Biden, 81, and Trump, 77.

The comic the unleashed a blistering, 20-minute speech, including commentary on the special counsel report on the president’s handling of classified documents.

“This guy couldn’t remember stuff during his deposition,” Stewart said of Biden. “You understand what that means? He had no ability to recall very basic things under questioning.”
