Jon Stewart will be off The Daily Show this week after contracting Covid, and Daily Show correspondent Michael Kosta will step in as host.

The show announced Monday that Stewart “recently tested positive for Covid-19, therefore he will not be hosting this week and will return on Monday, August 12.” . Scheduled guests this week include author Roxane Gay, actor, former Daily Show correspondent Ed Helms and comedian Hannah Berner.

It was announced earlier this year that Stewart would return as host the Comedy Central late-night show one night a week through the 2024 election cycle. Stewart hosts on Monday nights, with the rest of the week handled by its correspondents, who include Desi Lydic, Kosta and Ronny Chieng.

His return came eight years after he stepped down from hosting the show, which revolutionized late-night television and brought through the likes of Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Samantha Bee and Steve Carell.

As part of his deal, Stewart also executive produces every episode of the show through 2025 to “shape” the next chapter of the franchise. His return reunites him with showrunner and exec producer Jen Flanz, who started as a production assistant and has been with the show for more than 25 years. Stewart’s manager James “Baby Doll” Dixon also was brought on as an exec producer.
