Seemingly unlike Democrats with president Donald Trump, Jon Stewart has a bone to pick with Chuck Schumer and the minority party’s lack of cohesion and gumption around fighting back against GOP legislation.

Kicking off The Daily Show, the host tallied off a list of Trump developments from last week, even acknowledging a Deadline post about POTUS calling CNN and MSNBC “illegal.” Stewart quipped, “By the way, I’m not against everything he does,” feigning apologies for the jab at the rival cable channels.

For a majority of the opening segment, Stewart went in on Schumer, who switched up his decision on the Republicans’ proposed funding bill, thus paving the way toward its passage and averting a government shutdown. Upon introducing the change in his political decision-making, the audience audibly booed the U.S. Senate minority leader.

“Senator Schumer, no disrespect, but you are a disgrace to Jewish stereotypes about financial negotiations,” Stewart said after playing a news clip that revealed Schumer did not get anything in return for relinquishing the Dems’ leverage. “I thought the whole point of us is that’s what we do. But you’re out there, ‘How much is it? $5. How about I give you $7?’ Like, what are you doing?”

Schumer explained the choice by alluding to Trump’s political might, adding that the party will “keep at it” after the president’s approval rating dips.

“At what? This was it! This was the ‘it’ that you would have been keeping at,” Stewart said, at a loss. “It’s not the keeping of the ‘it’ that’s the issue, it’s what the ‘it’ … Don’t you have to start it to keep at it? If this wasn’t ‘it’ then what is it if this not be it?”

Following an NBC News poll that boasted a 27% Democratic approval rating, Stewart decided to illustrate the dire situation in ways the perennially bespectacled Congress member might understand.

“Let me meet you where you f—ing live,” he said, whipping out glasses.

“This is 48% approval. This is them,” Stewart spelled out, perching the specs at the top of his nose.

“This is you, 27%,” he said, moving them down much lower, as Schumer typically dons them. “‘Oh I see, they’re much higher,'” he added, mocking the senator.

Stewart concluded, “And if you keep this up, you’ll be wearing these on your d—, do you understand?”
