Jose Mourinho is currently unemployed after being sacked by Serie A side AS Roma. It is now believed that the Portuguese manager is keen on what would be a shock return to Manchester United.
That is according to the Daily Mail, with sources close to Mourinho saying he feels he has ‘unfinished business’ after previously holding the position as Manchester United manager between 2016 and 2018.
The report suggests Mourinho ‘has made it his mission’ to return to Old Trafford should the opportunity arise at some point in the future.
Mourinho, who clashed with Ed Woodward prior to his sacking in December 2018, is presumably interested in working with United under the new regime.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos remit are taking over football operations, which should make life easier for the manager, with Erik ten Hag currently in the hotseat.
The idea of replacing Ten Hag with Mourinho is one that will disgust many United fans after he took charge in 2016 and left the team in a dire state. I’d rather have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back over some past it manager that will come and cause even more unrest in the dressing room.
I mean, can’t we just back Ten Hag? The Dutchman has looked under threat at various points in a tumultuous season, though we would be naïve to downplay how significant injuries have been since the beginning of the campaign.
