José Mourinho, the ultimate twist

Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has implored Jose Mourinho to continue his run in Türkiye amid a usual tumultuous debut campaign.

After being sacked by AS Roma in January 2024, Mourinho returned to the bench with Fenerbahce during the summer, starting a new chapter in the Turkish Super Lig. He has been outspoken about the challenges of the Turkish elite and recently, in a scathing remark, urged journalists to “tell the truth”

on what he described as the environment “ toxic » in the Super Lig.

Fenerbahce’s form is also down, as they remain eight points behind reigning champions Galatasaray – a gap which has fueled doubts over their title hopes this season. However, club president Koc has given Mourinho his full support, emphasizing the importance of stability and long-term planning regardless of current form.

Full support for Mourinho

Speaking to reporters, Koc highlighted the club’s commitment to their manager and said: “ Whether we are there or not, José Mourinho must continue to do his duty. As for the coach, we will continue with the coach as long as we live. This question of stability is very important. The man we brought in has quality. »

Koc’s support for Mourinho signals a commitment to long-term planning, a rarity in modern football where immediate results often take priority. The president’s remarks underline his belief that Mourinho’s proven track record and leadership qualities can ultimately elevate Fenerbahce to the pinnacle of Turkish football.

However, the challenge remains significant. The Turkish giants are set to take part in the Turkish Cup on Thursday, facing Kasimpasa on the road. Four days later, they will focus again on the Super Lig with a crucial league match against Konyaspor. These fixtures provide Mourinho with the opportunity to steady the ship and build momentum as Fenerbahce attempt to close the gap on Galatasaray in the domestic championship.
