OM are not yet sure of acquiring the services of British defender from Verona Josh Doig.

Announced as almost complete during the weekend, Josh Doig’s arrival in Marseille is not yet effective. The 21-year-old Scottish defender is still retained by his club Verona and it is not impossible that he ultimately takes charge of a club other than OM.

Complicated negotiations between OM and Verona

According to information communicated by La Provence, Verona has received another proposal for its player. Sassuolo would have outbid OM’s offer. Even if the main interested party is more interested in a challenge at the Vélodrome rather than with another Serie A club, the possibility of an agreement with the Neroverdi is real.

On the Marseille side, there is strong fear of an unfavorable outcome to this issue. Marseille officials, in particular, know that their counterparts in Verona can lead them by boat. This has already been the case in the past with Serbian players Darko Lazovic and Ivan Ilic. The Hellas board had used OM’s interest to increase their rating.

The start of the winter transfer window is therefore quite delicate for Marseille. Certainly, there was the signing of Jean Onana from Besiktas, but all the other avenues studied turned out to be complicated. The signing of Adrien Truffert, once hoped for, would also have been abandoned. There are still two weeks left to rectify the situation and thus give Gattuso the tools he needs to have a good second half of the season.
