Ghana's head coach has been told he is no use in the role by a journalist after the team failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Otto Addo and his side missed out on a place at the tournament in Morocco, which runs from December 2025 to January 2026.

The Black Stars' absence was confirmed with a draw against Angola on Friday before they rounded off their miserable campaign with a 2-1 loss at home to Niger on Monday night.

It means Ghana will not appear at AFCON for the first time since 2004, a run stretching back ten tournaments.

Addo was involved in a heated press conference after the loss to Niger as he clashed with a member of the media.

During his exchange with a journalist, he asked: "Two years of coaching and six months of scouting. Now I ask you what am I?

"And during the scouting also I was coaching. I was not, I never stopped. What am I?"

The reporter hit back by saying: "Well I think your scouting is better than your coaching.

"So you are (more) good at scouting than coaching because the coaching you are not good at all."

The former midfielder returned for a second spell in charge in March after overseeing Ghana's 2022 World Cup campaign.

However, he has since won just two of ten matches, failing to pick up a single victory in AFCON qualifying.

Ghana ended the campaign bottom of their group, which Angola topped ahead of fellow qualifiers Sudan.

Fans of the four-time African champions made their feelings known late on as they jeered Mohammed Kudus as he stepped up to take a stoppage time penalty.

They could then be heard celebrating after the West Ham star failed to score from 12 yards.

Ghana are also at risk of missing out on qualification for the 2026 World Cup despite Africa receiving an extra four guaranteed berths.

Addo's side are currently second in their group behind Comoros on goal difference after four matches.

Only the group winners will automatically reach the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

As it stands, Ghana would have to settle for a play-off place as one of the four best runners-up.

They will resume qualifying with matches against Chad and Madagascar in March.
