It’s now official. For many weeks, Atlético de Madrid has been courting Julian Alvarez. Author of two high-flying seasons with Manchester City where he piled up goals and trophies, the 24-year-old striker finally joined the Iberian capital this Monday. Often relegated to the background in Manchester with Erling Haaland, the 2022 world champion with Argentina will be one of the lethal weapons of the Colchoneros, who paid 95 million euros to have him, in a few weeks. In the meantime, the former River Plate player delivered an emotional message to his former club on his social networks.

Today I say goodbye to this wonderful club with a lot of emotion. Two very special years. During this time I have grown and learned a lot as a player and a person. To the management and technical staff, thank you for the trust and support. Their teachings and vision have helped me develop in a tremendous way. To my teammates, thank you for every moment shared, for the effort and dedication in every training session and every match. I have learned a lot from each of you and I take away memories and friendships that will last forever. To the fans, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your great support and for making me feel at home since day one. I will always be very proud to have been part of this family. Manchester City will always have a special place in my heart. I wish them much success in the future and I will continue to support the club wherever I am. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!»
