June Squibb Is an Action Star at 94 in 'Thelma,' Which Is Also Her Very First Starring Role

Can you believe that June Squibb hasn’t had a starring role in a movie until now?!

The 94-year-old actress started her acting career on the stage and even appeared in the original production of the beloved musical Gypsy. She earned an Oscar nomination in 2014 for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Nebraska. Now, she’s leading the action-comedy film Thelma, which is in theaters now.

“I always loved what I was doing,” she told Vulture about playing supporting roles. “I just wanted to work. And I think it’s true that as you work, the more you work — not always but most of the time — the roles do get bigger.”

Thelma is also one of the best-reviewed projects of June‘s career with a 99% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes!
