Over the past few days, speculations linking Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez to FC Barcelona have gathered a lot of momentum.

The Uruguayan international’s activity on social media, in part, has served to fuel the rumours, with it being suggested that his agent, Jorge Mendes, has already offered the striker to Barça.

It has even been claimed that Nunez ‘dreams’ of playing for the Blaugrana, having already said yes to the club back in 2020 before he was snapped up by SL Benfica.

Jurgen Klopp dismisses speculations

Earlier today at a press conference, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was asked about the situation of Nunez and the speculations regarding his future, which the German tactician dismissed.

“There is no speculation on his future. That must be external speculation,” Klopp said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“Darwin was not happy missing that chance and it happens. You help him if you can, but it’s part of a footballer’s career,” he added.

Nunez to cost €75 million

Nunez signed for Liverpool from SL Benfica in the summer of 2022 and has a contract with the club that runs until 2028.

The 24-year-old has come under some criticism for his misses in front of goal this season, but still has managed to bag a total of 18 goals and 13 assists across all competition.

Even if Liverpool consider offloading the striker, they would demand a sum of at least €75 million for him, which would be difficult for Barcelona to match.

It must also be remembered that Barça already have Robert Lewandowski and Vitor Roque as their centre-forwards.

Even though Roque is likely to leave on loan, any move for Nunez will only be considered if Lewandowski is also sold by the Catalans.
