A few hours before his last match with Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp could not contain his emotions yesterday at a press conference. The Reds coach (488 games) looked back on notable events from his nine seasons spent on the Liverpool bench. For LFCTV, the club’s television channel, he read letters that supporters had sent to him before his departure. One of them particularly moved him.

“I burst into tears when I received a letter. Reading what this means to people, how our football has changed lives, makes me overjoyed. I know football can have this effect”, he said. Anfield’s farewell to their coach tomorrow against West Ham is also likely to be emotional.
