The first international break of the 2024/25 season has brought with it the first injury victim for FC Barcelona.
Indeed, according to journalist Rafa Acevedo, Barcelona attacking midfield prodigy Fermin Lopez has suffered an injury while away with the Spanish Under-21 national team.
Fermin, who was part of the Spain squad that won the UEFA Euro 2024, helped the Under-23 side win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics this past summer.
The 21-year-old La Masia graduate has not played much under Hansi Flick having returned to the team after the season started owing to the international commitments.
Fermin was ignored by the Spain senior team for this international break and was instead named in the Under-21 squad by Santi Denia, along with another Barcelona starlet, Pau Cubarsi.
Now, it appears that the attacking midfield sensation has suffered an injury, with the report claiming that he might have a fibrillar tear, although a concrete update will emerge once MRI scans are done.
This comes as a blow for Barcelona, who have already had to deal with multiple injury setbacks since the summer and are already without as many as six players.
There is hope that new manager Hansi Flick will be able to recover Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati right after the international break, but Fermin’s name is now being added to the list of casualties.
More updates regarding the actual nature and severity of the injury as well as the possible time out on the sidelines are awaited.
