It is no secret that Hansi Flick is one of the serious contenders to replace Xavi Hernandez as Barcelona manager at the end of the season.
The 59-year-old has been unemployed since being relieved of his duties as the head coach of the German national team back in September 2023.
Flick is eager to take over the reins at Barcelona and has recently held talks with club legend Pep Guardiola and the latter’s former assistant Domenec Torrent to learn about how things work at the Catalan outfit.
Flick’s agent meets with Laporta
Now, Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Barcelona president Joan Laporta held a meeting with Pini Zahavi, who happens to be the newly-appointed agent of Hansi Flick.
As per the update, Laporta and Zahavi, who also represents Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski, met on Monday in a restaurant in the Catalan capital for more than two hours.
The Blaugrana are still scouring the market for a future first-team coach and this meeting has fuelled rumours that Flick could be the one chosen to take over from Xavi on the bench, although there is still no firm decision on who the next coach will be.
It is no secret that Barça’s financial situation does not allow for big investments and that makes Hansi Flick a great potential candidate, as the German is without a team and would arrive on a free contract.
Furthermore, Flick is understood to be excited about taking the Barcelona job and might be willing to make concessions on his contract to make
It should be remembered that Zahavi was already in Barcelona at the end of February to see the game against Getafe and had met with Laporta even then.
However, sporting director Deco assured that they have not yet decided who will take Xavi’s place next season and that they had not initiated contacts with the future coach because there were other priorities to resolve in the planning of the next campaign.
Furthermore, this past weekend, reports in France claimed that Hansi Flick himself had met with Joan Laporta in Barcelona, information that the German coach’s entourage flatly denied to Mundo Deportivo.
Either way, the speculation will heat up again with the latest meeting between Zahavi and Laporta.
