According to a fresh report published by SPORT, Chelsea superstar Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea in the summer, and has offered himself to Barcelona.
The Argentine, coming off a spectacular 2022 World Cup campaign, where he was awarded the Best Young Player award, joined Chelsea in a deal worth €120 million in the January of 2023.
While there were several teams interested in his signature, Enzo decided to pounce on Chelsea’s offer, who had tabled a deal until 2031 for him. An eight-year contract as one of the highest-paid players in the league was something he could not deny.
However, despite spending nearly €1 billion since new owner Todd Boehly came into the club, Chelsea have been massively underperforming. They are currently 11th in the table, 15 points off top-four.
Speculatively irritated by the club’s performances, reports of Enzo looking to leave Chelsea started circling the media across the last month. His agent clarified them, though, by suggesting otherwise, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“I really don’t understand why reports came out of nowhere about Enzo planning t leave Chelsea. We know the plan of the club, plan of the owners. He’s happy and wants to stay.”
Even though Chelsea would be desperate to get rid of some of their players to align themselves more with FFP, Barcelona can safely rule out signing Enzo, who will likely cost more than €100 million in the summer.
