The Ministry of Youth Development is planning to introduce a new training program for graduates of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), similar to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This initiative was announced by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Olawande Wisdom, during the opening of the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan on Monday.

The minister stated that his ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to implement various training reforms, including a program specifically designed for NCE graduates. He noted that while the NYSC serves university graduates, there has been no equivalent program for those who hold NCE or similar qualifications.

“The primary focus of the ministry is citizenship and training, and we are bringing these back. We have NYSC for university graduates, but what about those who completed NCE and similar programs?” Wisdom said.

The new scheme aims to provide local training options, allowing participants to train within their own states instead of having to travel elsewhere. Wisdom also emphasized the importance of addressing social issues and praised the work of organizations like the Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Guide in keeping youth away from negative influences.

He concluded by highlighting the ministry’s commitment to enhancing citizenship and training, which will be reinforced through the proposed program.
