A fire broke out early Friday morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road, in Ogba, Lagos.
According to Vanguard, the fire, which started around 2:20 a.m., affected part of a two-story building within the quarters.
Specifically, one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5, located in Block 21 of the building, was severely damaged.
According to an initial investigation by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire began due to an electrical surge in the children’s room.
The incident resulted in the complete destruction of the room and significant property damage, estimated to be worth millions of naira.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that the quick response by LASEMA’s Response Team (LRT), along with the Nigerian Police Force and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, helped to contain and extinguish the fire before it could spread further.
“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly.
“Fortunately there was no loss of life and injuries sustained in the incident,” Oke-Osanyitolu stated.
He added that residents were also educated on the safe use of electrical appliances following the incident.
As of 5 a.m., emergency personnel were still at the scene, ensuring the situation was fully under control.
