Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the payment of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage to workers on both the state and local government payrolls.

He has also directed the payment to workers according to the planned schedules.

This was disclosed by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, during an interview with journalists following a closed-door meeting with the governor on Tuesday.

Fashe announced that state government workers will start receiving their salaries with the new minimum wage from August 2024, while local government workers will begin benefiting from September.

He explained that the state will initially use the consequential adjustment table from 2019 for the new wage implementation, pending the release of an updated table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission.

“Whatever the worker was earning under the current national minimum wage of ₦32,000 in Adamawa State will be adjusted proportionally in line with the new minimum wage,” Fashe said.

He added that Governor Fintiri is deeply committed to the welfare of workers, which is why the new minimum wage is being implemented even before the official release of the updated adjustment table.
