The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to meet today with Benue State senators, House of Representatives members, and other key stakeholders to address the ongoing conflict between supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

For over a year, the Benue chapter of the APC has been plagued by internal strife, with political factions vying for control. The party’s division has seen Austin Agada leading the faction aligned with Akume, while Benjamin Omakolo heads the faction supporting Alia.

In an interview on Monday, Nze Chidi Duru, the APC’s National Deputy Organising Secretary, revealed that the party leadership would meet with many of the aggrieved members and relevant stakeholders at the APC’s national headquarters today.

Duru stated, “I am not aware of any sanctions. The party has not discussed that matter. However, we will be meeting with Benue stakeholders, including senators and House of Reps members from the state, at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Following that, we will have a meeting with the newly installed Benue APC caretaker committee at 2 p.m. at the party secretariat in Abuja.”

The political crisis in Benue APC escalated last Wednesday when the NWC dissolved the Agada-led executives loyal to Akume. In their place, the party immediately appointed a seven-member caretaker committee to oversee state-level party affairs for the next six months.
