Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, expressed confidence in securing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket ahead of the election.

He disclosed this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday amid the stiff opposition he is getting from his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki who is backing another contender, Asue Ighodalu to succeed him.

Drawing a vivid analogy, Shaibu likened himself to a “ripe mango” targeted with stones due to his perceived popularity.

“I am going to get the ticket of the PDP. I am very confident. I am confident because I am a candidate to beat. That is why they are attacking me. It is only a mango tree that has ripe fruits that is being thrown stone at. I am that tree. I have ripe fruits that is why they are throwing stones at me,” Shaibu asserted.

Highlighting his close connection with the people, Shaibu emphasized, “I am the one aspirant that people can see, feel and touch. I am one aspirant that knows what the people need and whom they are yearning to have. I have lived with them, understand their thinking and know what they want.”

He further outlined his approach to governance, stating, “I am not going to be a governor that would throw things at people that they don’t need. I understand them and I know what they need. In terms of leadership assessment, I know what every zone needs for survival and for poverty to remain history in our state.”
