Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Yinka Egbeyemi has been relieved of his duties as Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

Egbeyemi, who took on the role of RRS Commander in December 2020, is now assigned to the administrative department of the Lagos State Police Command.

The former head of the Lagos Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has been appointed to lead the RRS, succeeding Egbeyemi.

Egbeyemi, having served over three years as the head of the RRS, will officially hand over to Jejeloye on Friday.

In addition to this reshuffling, CSP Adetayo Akerele has been named the new Chairman of the Lagos Environmental and Special Offenses Unit (Taskforce), previously serving as the BRT Lane Monitoring and Enforcement Commander.

During Egbeyemi’s tenure, the RRS was heavily involved in enforcing traffic laws, including impounding vehicles that violated regulations and confiscating motorcycles (okadas), often taking them to the RRS office despite such actions not being explicitly within their mandate.

Under Jejeloye’s leadership as Chairman of the Taskforce, there was a significant increase in the number of okada riders apprehended, with many of their motorcycles being destroyed.
