Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, the Towulade of Akinale in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, has passed away at the age of 79.
The late monarch had a distinguished career in journalism, including roles at the old Daily Times of Nigeria. He later served as the General Manager of Public Relations at the defunct Nigeria Airways. Oba Ogunleye was initially installed as the Baale of Akinale in 2004 by former Governor Gbenga Daniel. His status was elevated to that of an Oba by the same administration in 2006.
Reports indicate that the royal father had been unwell for several weeks and was undergoing treatment at St. Thomas Hospital in London, where he eventually passed away on Wednesday, June 19.
According to a source close to the late monarch, Oba Ogunleye had recently completed his PhD program in law and was preparing for his upcoming graduation ceremony in a few weeks.
