It’s been a brilliant season for Arsenal so far in 2023/24, and with four games to go in their Premier League season, the Gunners still have a chance to win their first English top-flight title in 20 years.

Whether or not that ends up being the case will be seen over the next few weeks, but what’s clear is that the club will continue to improve in terms of their playing staff over the summer.

Rather than standing still in the transfer market last summer, the Gunners made a real splash, and the rewards from signing the likes of Declan Rice have been self evident.

Arsenal still chasing Martin Zubimendi

To have the strength in depth that the likes of title rivals Man City have, for example, Arsenal do need a handful of players in various positions, and one player that they’ve appeared to have targeted for a while now is Real Sociedad’s excellent midfielder, Martin Zubimendi.

The 25-year-old has been one of La Real’s most consistent players for a while now and the thought of seeing him at a bigger club, with respect to Real Sociedad, hasn’t been without foundation.

Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal?

His is a skill set that would be right at home in the midfields of some of the biggest teams on the continent.

To date the player has rebuffed all interest in him, and in a recent interview with Kooora (h/t MARCA), he’s doubled down on what happens next.

“They are just rumours, I am happy at Real Sociedad, it is like my home,” he said.

“I cannot say that I will play my entire career at Real Sociedad, perhaps the club does not want me to continue in the future. And I do not worry about those rumours.”

Whilst he hasn’t entirely ruled out a move at some point in the future, if Arsenal thought that they might be able to land him this summer, they’re likely to be disappointed.

That scenario will mean that Edu will have to scour the marketplace for a player with similar skills and, whilst not a first choice would at least give Arteta the bodies he needs in the squad for another title tilt next season.
