Justin Baldoni was honored with the “Voices of Solidarity Award” just two weeks ago by the organization Vital Voices, but the award is now being taken back amid Blake Lively‘s lawsuit against him. The award is presented to “remarkable men who have shown courage and compassion in advocating on behalf of women and girls in the United States and around the world.” It Ends With Us actor Hasan Minhaj was actually on hand at the event on December 9 to present the award to Justin. The actor/director wrote on Instagram afterwards, “Thank you, brother, for using your brilliant mind to be of service by challenging us all and making us laugh at the same time. No one does it better. Thank you for being a true friend and always showing up—but most importantly, when the cameras aren’t rolling.” Now, Vital Voices has announced that they are taking back the award. On Saturday, December 21, we learned through news reports about a lawsuit brought by Blake Lively against Mr. Baldoni, his publicists, and others that is disturbing and alleges abhorrent conduct. The communications among Mr. Baldoni and his publicists included in the lawsuit – and the PR effort they indicate – are, alone, contrary to the values of Vital Voices and the spirit of the Award.
