Portugal’s elimination from the European Championships in the quarterfinal against France officially saw former Barcelona stars Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix bow out of the prestigious event.

The duo are still far from securing their future at the Catalan capital, especially considering that both Manchester City and Atletico Madrid prefer a permanent transfer for a sizable fee.

Of the two, however, Cancelo appears to be the player more likely to return to Catalonia. After all, Pep Guardiola has no place for him in his squad and the club are looking to finalize his future before he returns for pre-season.

Juventus enter the race

City initially valued Cancelo at €30 million at the start of the summer, but they have since reduced that number and would be willing to accept a sum lower tha €20 million.

While Barcelona are still hesitant to agree to the fee given their financial situation, Juventus are interested as revealed by SPORT.

The Italian side are prepared to push for Cancelo’s signing this summer and are in negotiations with City.

However, the report clarifies that an agreement with Juventus is still far away. The Italians are looking to speed up negotiations this week, but they are looking for a loan with a non-mandatory purchase option.

Barcelona are calm

After speaking with the player, Joan Laporta and his team are confident that Cancelo only wishes to return to Barcelona. The administration, thus, remains calm despite the movements from Italy.

The Blaugrana are pushing for a loan with no mandatory purchase option and hope that City will eventually yield to their demands given the player’s situation. Cancelo is prepared to wait for the club and Jorge Mendes is also on the job.

Should Barcelona fail to sign Cancelo on a new loan deal this summer, however, a new low-cost signing is expected. In such a scenario, Jules Kounde is likely to play as the team’s right-back.
