The Special Assistant to the Governor of Kaduna State on School Feeding Programme, Dr. Fauziya Buhari-Ado, has disclosed that the initiative primarily targets children from vulnerable homes.

She emphasised the importance of education for the teeming population of children in the state as a cornerstone for sustainable growth and development.

Buhari-Ado made this known in Kaduna while receiving the Most Impactful Special Assistant of the Year 2024 award, conferred by Kaduna Social Media Connect.

The aide, in a statement on Tuesday, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining the school feeding programme across all 23 local government areas.

She explained that the beneficiaries of the programme are predominantly children from underprivileged backgrounds who deserve access to quality education comparable to their peers from more affluent homes.

“Eighty per cent of the beneficiaries of this programme are children from the most vulnerable segments of society. These are children whose families cannot afford school fees or provide them with adequate meals,” Buhari-Ado said.

She further highlighted the initiative’s significance, noting, “These children often come to school without anything. His Excellency has ensured that all their basic needs are met. By providing them with proper nutrition and nourishment, we are setting the foundation for their academic success and long-term development.”

Describing the initiative as a unique effort in the country, Buhari-Ado added, “These children represent the future of Kaduna State and Nigeria. We are the only state actively engaged in this programme at such a scale.”

The programme, according to Buhari-Ado, benefits over 25,000 children spread across 51 boarding schools in Kaduna’s 23 local government areas.
